Ellen DeGeneres called wife Portia de Rossi ‘the best thing that ever happened in my life’ in gushing post shared in honor of their 20th anniversary.
’20 years ago today we began this relationship not realizing what a long beautiful adventure this would be. You are the best thing that ever happened in my life,’ her caption began.
‘You take care of me. You help me see the good in everything. You help to guide me and pick me up when I feel off or down. You are a beautiful soul that I am so very grateful to have as a partner to navigate this crazy life with,’ the former talk show host, 66, wrote.
The couple recently relocated to the Cotswolds region of England in an apparent effort to avoid living in the U.S. after Donald Trump won the presidency.
She continued: ‘My wife. My best friend. The love of my life. Thank you for being you and loving me.
‘So happy we get to travel and explore the world together in the next 20 years, and looking forward to our first snowy Christmas.’
The post contained a cute selfie of the couple posing by the countryside, perhaps their new Cotswolds community.
The couple met in 2001 in Los Angeles and began dating in 2004.
‘It’s the first time that I’ve known in every cell of my being that I’m with somebody for the rest of my life,’ Ellen told People in November 2005.
That same year, Portia gushed about the relationship, saying it was the first time she truly felt she had someone by her side.
‘It’s a very respectful, very loving, peaceful relationship. We have a lot in common; we share the same outlook on life. I really feel not alone for the first time in my life,’ she told The Advocate in 2005.
The couple married in 2008 and since that time have been buying houses and moving a lot and sharing beloved rescue pups.
Recently, Ellen ditched the US for the UK to kick off her ‘retirement’ with wife Portia after her career was tarnished by accusations about toxic behavior on her now defunct talk show.
The couple shocked fans after they were spotted exploring their new stomping grounds in rural England – amid reports that they have put their Montecito mansion on the market in response to the 2024 presidential election.
But, according to insiders, the couple had already planned to quit the states before Donald Trump won the election.
‘Make no mistake about it. This is Ellen and Portia’s retirement,’ an insider told DailyMail.com exclusively. ‘Neither one of them have any projects lined up.
The insider noted that the former talk show heavyweight has been left juggling far less work following accusations that she fostered a toxic workplace on her show’s set.
‘Ellen really felt she had made her mark on the industry, but that was diminished when she was cancelled over her alleged treatment of her staff,’ the source added. ‘Then to have celebrities call her out one by one was so hurtful.’
