The Voice winner Sundance Head is airlifted to hospital after accidental shooting on his Texas ranch

Country singer Sundance Head, who won season 11 of The Voice in 2016, was airlifted to a hospital after he accidentally shot himself on his Texas ranch on Friday.

Trey Newman, the 46-year-old music artist’s agent, told TMZ the shooting took place in a rural area of the state.

The outlet reported that paramedics got the star in stable condition and he is recovering in a Tyler, Texas hospital.

Per Newman, Sundance’s wife Misty said the bullet missed her husband’s vital organs and got lodged in a fatty area of his stomach.

After arriving at her husband’s side, Misty took to social media to share an update with his fans.

On his Facebook account, she said she ‘physically put my eyes on him and heard his sweet voice.’

The devoted spouse wrote, ‘He’s in good spirits considering the last several hours. Kids are in with him now. Prayers answered as no internal damage was done by the bullet. Thank you all for the prayers.’

Misty confirmed that Jason was alone when the incident happened and detailed, ‘It was not his hunting rifle and no, nobody shot him. He was out of the vehicle reaching in to grab his 22. When he grabbed it, the 22 came out of its holster and hit the exterior of the Jeep just right and went off. Sundance said it happened so fast and he could see the bullet dislodging.’

TMZ reported that he posted a social media photo on Friday morning showing the inside of a large tent. It was captioned, ‘Woke up this morning to the sound of silence.’

Days ago, the recording artist had also mentioned a tentative plan to go hunting in an Instagram post.

Posting to his nearly 30,000 followers on the platform, he wrote in a caption, ‘I have the next couple of weekends off – available for pop up show (private or venue).’

He instructed potential takers to ’email [email protected] and I’ll bring the guitar to [you].’

He added at the end, ‘If nothing comes up I’ll just go hunting ha ha that is the plan. Constant hustle.’

Per the TMZ report, the incident is being considered an accident.

In the wake of the shooting, Misty has asked her husband’s fans for prayers.

Mrs. Head previously said that her husband dialed 911 himself, but she later updated fans and said he actually had forgotten his phone, ‘so he took off down the driveway out to the main road to flag a car down for help.’

People reported that the Facebook post read: ’10 cars later someone turned around to help and called 911. Now this is what he has told me… he is heavily medicated at the moment. He’s so lucky and grateful to be alive.’

Misty also described that the bullet ‘went in above his navel and lodged into his abdominal wall.’

‘He will not require surgery as they are not removing the bullet,’ she added. ‘I’m sure [his doctor] said why but my head is in a fog right now. Him being on the bigger side was a good thing. Bullet is in his fatty tissue.’

Earlier in the evening, Misty told the outlet: ‘We appreciate all the prayers and will update everyone soon once we have more info.’

Sundance Head competed on American Idol in 2007, making it to the semifinals round.
