A teenage girl has died when a car crashed into a swamp on the Gold Coast.
The crash happened about midnight Sunday.
The 15-year-old girl was driving and died at the scene. A 15-year-old boy and a 21-year-old male were also in the car and taken to hospital.
The single-vehicle crash happened on Helensvale Road, which borders the large Coombabah Lake and Careel Reserve.
In a statement, police say about 12am the 15-year-old was driving a Toyota Corolla westbound.
‘It has, for reasons yet to be determined, lost control, hit a street sign and came to a stop in swamp water.’
The teenage girl was from the nearby suburb of Molendinar. She died at the scene.
The two males in the car were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police want any witnesses or anyone with footage to come forward.
